The exhibition Where I Come From at Ohio University is opening this week on January 17. I have work included in the show from my series “Ordinary Time”. The show is up till February 18th with a reception/talk by the juror Hans Gindlesberger.
Ohio University’s Photography and Integrated Media Department and the School of Art and Design proudly present the exhibition “Where I Come From,” as part of the Alternatives biennial, on view January 17 through February 18 in the Ohio University Art Gallery, Seigfred Hall. There is an artist’s talk by the juror Hans Gindlesberger, February 16 at 5:00 p.m. in Mitchell Auditorium, followed by a closing reception 6:00–8:00 p.m.
The exhibition, featuring 30 pieces, representing 17 artists and 11 states, examines the title claim, “Where I Come From,” as a point of departure to consider questions of the landscape of identity from historical, geographical, familial and other influences.
“Where I Come From” is part of a long-standing biennial juried exhibition called “Alternatives,” organized by Ohio University’s M.F.A. Photography + Integrated Media program in the School of Art + Design since 1980. “Alternatives” has achieved national recognition for its leadership in forging new definitions in the medium by emphasizing the work of photographers in the conceptual forefront of the practice.
This year’s juror, Hans Gindlesberger, is assistant professor of photography at Binghamton University. He earned his M.F.A. in photography from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 2006 and his B.F.A. from Bowling Green State University in 2004. His projects examine the ways we are a part of, and apart from, the places we belong. His practice spans documentary and staged photography, narrative and experimental video, book arts, the pre-cinematic moving image, and interactive installation. Gindlesberger’s work has been included in national and international exhibitions and festivals.
Artists included in this exhibit include: Tamara Cedré, Lauren Davies, Emily Denton, Adrianne Der Marderosian, Yuxiang Dong, Nicholas Gaffney, Alex Grabiec, Pato Hebert, Chris Ireland, Megan Jacobs, Christopher Lineberry, Allen Morris, Natasha Rudenko, H. Jennings Sheffield, Erin Tokarz and Aaron Wax.
The Ohio University Art Gallery is open from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday to Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursdays. Admission is free and open to the public.
