My presentation of my recent work was accepted to be presented by the Society of Photographic Education – South-Central Regional Conference in Hunt, TX on Friday, October 14 from 10:30-11:20. The conference will be at Camp Stewart, in the Texas Hill Country from October 13-15th, 2016.
The creative work I plan to show during this talk was inspired by the collection, organization, and discovery I experienced in creating a digital version of my family album. I had experienced a death in the family over the last couple months and it inspired me to scan and categorize all the photos that were scattered around my childhood home. I catalogued all the images in Adobe Lightroom, and became aware of motifs and unintended visual patterns that became apparent while looking at the archived images. These patterns where not only interesting visually, but also in some cases revealed character traits and anecdotes about my family that I was previously unaware of. This presentation will cover this experience and I hope will start a discussion on the meaning/use of the family album in a digital catalogue.
